Autism hour at Stalybridge store

Tesco in Stalybridge are dimming the lights and noise to help shoppers with autism.

The next quiet hours, announced on their Facebook page, take place between 9am and 10am on Saturday (12 October).

They say the move will help create a calmer atmosphere for autistic customers.

The move has been praised online by Stalybridge MP Jonathan Reynolds, who said it will  “increase our knowledge about neurodiversity and kindness to our neighbours.”

The MP said: “It’s fantastic to see Stalybridge Tesco taking active steps to be autism friendly. This will help lots of families and individuals and raise autism awareness.

"Of course, people on the autistic spectrum and those of us with autistic children need to shop whenever family life demands it. So let’s all take steps to increase our knowledge about neurodiversity and kindness to our neighbours."
