Yorkshire Bank in Ashton town centre is to permanently close its doors, it has been confirmed.

The branch on Old Street is set to close its doors for the final time on 13 January 2022.

It's one of 31 stores that Virgin Money, which joined forces with Yorkshire Bank back in 2018, plans to close - with around 112 jobs due to be lost as a result.

A spokesperson said Virgin Money has made 'the difficult decision' to close the Ashton branch following a review of how customers are using its stores, with more people switching to online banking during the coronavirus pandemic.

Customers have been sent letters with more information and details of what they need to do.

Following the closure, the nearest Yorkshire Bank branch will be on Market Place in Oldham.

Fergus Murphy, group customer experience director at Virgin Money, said: "As our customers change the way they want to bank with us and conduct fewer transactions in-store, we must continue to evolve the role of our stores into places where we showcase our products and bring our digital services to life."
