Ashton primary school celebrate 'Good' Ofsted result

CELEBRATIONS ALL ROUND: Waterloo Head of School Damian Harris says he is proud of everyone involved with the school after Ofsted graded it a ‘Good’ school.

With Platinum Jubilee celebrations the order of the day at schools across the borough, one Ashton school has double cause for celebration.

For Ashton MP Angela Rayner visited the school last Friday (20 May) to congratulate Waterloo Primary on its recent Ofsted report which found the school ‘Good’ across the board.

Ofsted rated the quality of education, behaviours and attitudes, personal development, leadership, management and early years provision all to be ‘Good’ - the very first time the school has ever achieved such a grading.

Ofsted highlighted how pupils said one of the best things about school is their teachers and that the children spoke with enthusiasm about their learning.

The leadership at the school has also made reading the ‘gateway to the curriculum’ with teachers sharing a wide range of stories and poems with children across the early years.

CONGRATULATIONS: Angela Rayner MP with Mr Harris.

Head of School Damian Harris said: “Pupils enjoy attending Waterloo and love their lessons. Our curriculum is ambitious and we ensure that it is accessible for all learners.

“Waterloo pupils get a range of experiences at school and we are also planning exciting visitors and day trips for this school year. The pupils are at the heart of the decisions we make about school and they help us to make them! We are an inclusive community school where all are welcome!”

Waterloo Primary converted to become an academy school in July 2017 and when its predecessor school, Waterloo Primary School, was last inspected by Ofsted, it was judged to require improvement.

The school is part of the Prestolee Multi-Academy Trust.

Ashton MP Angela Rayner visited the school last week to congratulate them on their accomplishment.

You can read the full Ofsted report on the school’s website.
