Animal therapy set to expand in hoppy huts

Hoppy Huts, an outdoor space for animal-assisted therapies, is set to launch in February next year.

The project is an expansion of Dukinfield-based Noah’s ART, a service that offers innovative animal-assisted therapies.

For the past six years, they have been bringing people together through a love of animals.

Now the team are launching Hoppy Huts at The Together Centre in Dukinfield.

The huts have already been put up and Noah's ART thank Andrew and co from Bevin Home Improvements in Dukinfield for "coming to the rescue" after their original plans fell through.

The lottery-funded project aims to create a vibrant community space that will be used for activities such as bunny yoga, dog agility and mindfulness.

With weekend activities for families, including nature trails, treasure hunts and homemade pizza straight from the outdoor oven.

“We have great hopes that the space will provide a flexible multi-purpose facility that will help people of all ages and backgrounds,” Sharon Hall, founder of Noah’s ART and experienced mental health nurse, tells us.

“The outside spaces will help people who may be feeling anxious about social gatherings to feel safe and relaxed.”

In February 2021, they will be offering eight-week courses in animal welfare and animal inspired artwork.

“Activities will include designing animal habitats and cage enrichment toys, as well as making jewellery cards and other items. It is an intergenerational project from ages 13 to 65 and we are collaborating with local schools and the social prescribers,” Sharon says.

Hoppy Huts Theatre is also being piloted in collaboration with White Bridge College.

This music and drama project supports anxious performers in building confidence and developing their portfolio. Working with animals and a drama facilitator, the students are going to take on the quirks of their pawed pals to produce an original performance.
