£50k lottery win for two Droylsden dads

Two dads from Droylsden have each scooped a £50,000 jackpot after becoming the latest success stories in Tameside thanks to their lucky postcode.

The neighbours have come up trumps after their postcode M43 6HX was announced as a People's Postcode Lottery winner on Easter Sunday (April 12).

Dean Digby, 42, a construction worker, was one of the winners and his cheque was revealed by People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Danyl Johnson, over video call.

When he saw how much he’d won, an ecstatic Dean said: "Get in! Thank you! I don’t know what to say. Oh brilliant, I’m amazed!”

Dean (pictured below) has two daughters and a young grandchild who he plans to treat with the winnings, as well as booking a dream holiday.

He added: "I’m sure they will help me spend it! My sister and cousin are over the moon for me too.

"As soon as we’re allowed, I’ll take everyone out to celebrate. We’ll have a few cocktails at TGI’s. I’ve spent it loads of times over in my head. We’ll go on holiday when we can. All-inclusive to Mexico. I’ve always wanted to go. The last time I went away was 2006 so I’ve not been away for 14 years!”

When asked if he had won before, Dean joked: “I’ve won £20 before so I’m already a winner!”

Dean added: “This will really help a lot. You don’t even know. The timing is brilliant. I can’t get over it. I’m really ecstatic. I want to go and shout in the street!”

The second winner was Terry Byron, a bus driver and father of three. Terry was at home with his wife, Jackie, and daughter, Samantha when he received the video call from the Postcode Lottery team.

The 58-year-old also had his two sons on the phone who were eager to find out how much he had won.

When his £50k cheque was revealed, Terry said: "No way! Really?! Fantastic, I can’t believe that. Wonderful!”

Terry (pictured below) is also planning a family holiday with his prize money.

He said: "I will take the whole family on holiday. We were thinking of Turkey. I’m not really a plane person but I’ll manage!

"My family have spent it all already. The two boys are buying new cars and have bought them in their head.

“It’s come at a great time. We’re only common people at the end of the day. It’s an old cliché but you just don’t believe these things will happen to you. I’m over the moon. With everything that’s happening right now it’s just perfect timing."

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day. People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws. April's draws will see players in one postcode win £50,000 per ticket every Saturday and Sunday.

Ambassador Danyl Johnson said: "Whilst I was unable to meet Terry and Dean in person, it was great to video chat with them and see their reactions to winning £50,000! I’m sending a big congratulationsto both them and their families."

A minimum of 32 per cent of ticket sales goes directly to charities and players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise more than £500 million to date for good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

The draw was promoted on behalf of Royal Voluntary Service, which has received more than £11.8 million in funding thanks to players, to help older people stay active, healthy and involved in their local community.

It's the latest in a string of successes for Tameside addresses in recent weeks.

Last week, four people who live on Church Close in Audenshaw each won £1,000

Just a fortnight ago, three other Audenshaw residents - on Saxon Drive - scooped a whopping £30,000 each while, last week, 13 Mossley residents and another six living in Hyde each won £1,000.
