Weekend Review: Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League

In a change from the recent warm sunshine, cricket clubs had to battle with the plummeting temperatures as week two of the Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League got underway.

Division One

Dove Holes v Woodley

In a snow affected game, Woodley won the toss and elected to bat first.

Danny Kay top scored with 62 as they posted 165-9 from their 45 overs.

Dove Holes managed to save a draw with the weather halting proceedings, despite ending nine wickets down.

Ben Bagshaw scored 31 as the hosts finished on 139-9, with Jack Trowsdale the pick of the bowlers taking 4-23

New Mills v Broadbottom

New Mills won the toss and elected to field, seeing Broadbottom score 268-2. Aaron Walsh struck 89, Harrison Webb 54, Joe Brotherton 75 not out and Chris Cheetham-Roberts 33 not out.

New Mills were bowled out for 90 as Joe Riley took 4-30

Newton v Pott Shrigley

Pott Shrigley won the toss and elected to bat and were bowled out for 159. Tom Fletcher top scored with 74, while Daniel Weston took 3-21 and Joel Ankers 4-18.

Newton were relatively untroubled in the chase, winning by eight wickets. George Baker scored 48 and James Curtis 63.

Stalybridge v Dinting

Dinting won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 224-8. Greg Harwick hit 70, Martyn Knight 45 and Ryan Stringer 40, while Hur Bin Tariq took 6-52.

Stalybridge couldn’t reach the target, ending their innings on 208-9. Richard Wilde scored 77 and James Brady 39 as Mark Stringer took 3-46.

Tintwistle v Hayfield

Tintwistle won the toss and elected to bat, falling to 71 all out. JoJo Wyatt took 3-23 and Caleb Winfield 4-11.

Hayfield only lost one wicket on the way to victory as George Wood scored 32.

Division Two

Buxworth v Hazel Grove

Hazel Grove won the toss and elected to bat, posting a mammoth 329-7. Mike Burnard raced to 169 in an innings that included 12 sixes and was ably supported by Richard Burke (34), Stuart Knott (43) and Mark Coram (33). James Lister took 3-75.

Buxworth fell to 105 all out in reply, with Colin Nunn taking 3-13 and Lewis Rodgers 5-23.

Charlesworth v Whaley Bridge

Charlesworth won the toss and asked Whaley Bridge to bat, seeing them score 160-9. Luke Schofield scored 35 and Henry Holden 70, as David Wood and Cameron Saycell took three wickets each.

Charlesworth were nine wickets down when they reached victory. Cameron Saycell top scored with an unbeaten 45 as Eddie Ford took 6-25.

High Lane v Hollingworth

High Lane won the toss and elected to field, bowling Hollingworth out for 71. Michael Knight offered resistance with 42, as Tyler Eilselt took 4-18.

High Lane raced to victory for the loss of one wicket, Tyler Eilselt was unbeaten on 31 at the close.

Division Three

Broadbottom v Charlesworth

Broadbottom batted first and amassed 227/6 thanks to 123 from Chris Pratt and 38 not out from Neil Jackson. James Butterworth took 3-46.

Charlesworth fell to 118 all out in reply, Stephen Monks scoring 38 and Jack Wrigley 33. Gareth Whitney took 3-15.

Dinting v Buxworth

Buxworth won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 193-5. Neil McCormack scored 50, Cam Hammond 58 and Gabe Huddlestone 33 as Matthew Blood took 3-35.

Dinting raced to victory for the loss of five wickets as Ryan Townsend hit 36, Glen Draper 76 and Matthew Blood 57 not out.

Hazel Grove v Tintwistle

Hazel Grove won the toss and elected to bat, finishing on 173-4. Mike Holtom top scored with 74.

Tintwistle were bowled out for 115 in reply. Dan Robinson scored 30 as Oliver Hodson took 3-22.

Hollingworth v Dove Holes

Hollingworth won the toss and elected to bat first as they were bowled out for 166. Alex Halliday hit 82 and Cory Flint took 4-31.

Dove Holes made it home with seven balls and two wickets to spare. Mark Turner top scored with 72 as K Khan took 4-40.

Old Glossop v Newton

Old Glossop won the toss and elected to bat, finishing on 181-6. Jehrome Sagar hit 52 and Andy Dwyer 59 not out as Mike Hyde took 3-48.

Newton eased to victory for the loss of six wickets thanks to a brutal 116 not out from Josh Cragg.

Pott Shrigley v Stalybridge

Stalybridge won the toss and elected to field first, bowling their hosts out for 86. Gary Sandiford took 6-18.

Stalybridge eased home for the loss of four wickets thanks to an unbeaten 32 from Tilak Bhojani.

Woodley v Chapel

Chapel won the toss and elected to field, bowling out Woodley for 104 as John Theyer took 3-17.

Chapel raced home for the loss of just three wickets as Stuart Barton was 46 not out and Max Newiss scored 34.
