Weekend Football Review

Our local sides were back in action on a glorious Saturday afternoon.

In the National League North, Curzon Ashton's miserable run of form continued as they were hit for five without reply at Kidderminster Harriers. Adam Lakeland's side, who have conceded 11 goals in their previous three games, are now 13th in the table and seven points outside the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Hyde United's quest to avoid the drop improved with a 1-0 victory over Gainsborough Trinity. Lewis Earl's goal in the 60th minute was enough to give Nick Spooner's side the three points, and they are now 13 points above the drop zone.

Stalybridge Celtic also ended a dismal run of form with a 1-0 win at Atherton Collieries. Raul Correiea's penalty in the 28th minute proving to be the difference between the sides.

Ashton United's great run of form came to an end at playoff chasing Morpeth Town. The 2-0 defeat, courtesy of Andrew Johnson and Liam Henderson, leaves the Robins 12th in the table.

In the NPL West, Mossley were forced to settle for a point and shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Marine. Andy Keogh put the Lilywhites ahead in the sixth minute, before former Stalybridge Celtic man Neil Kengni levelled matters for the visitors in the 64th minute. The result leaves David FIsh's side eighth in the table.

And Glossop North End returned from Newcastle Town with a point after both sides failed to find the back of the net. Stuart Mellish's side are 13th in the table.
