Weekend Football Review

In EFL League Two, Oldham Athletic picked up their first three points of the season thanks to a 2-1 win at Bolton Wanderers.

Zak Dearnley’s stunning effort deep into stoppage time secured the win for Harry Kewell’s side, who are now 19^th in the table while Wanderers drop to 20^th.

In the National League North, Curzon Ashton find themselves in the playoff zone after a 2-1 win against Farsley Celtic at the Tameside Stadium. Dominic Knowles scored his fourth of the season to give Curzon the lead before Dale Whitham doubled the advantage shortly after. Celtic pulled a goal back and had a chance to level matters in the 86^th minute, but Curzon ‘keeper Cameron Mason came to the rescue by saving a penalty. Steve Cunningham’s side have now drawn two and won one of their opening three games.

In the NPL Premier Division, Ashton United’s poor run of form continued with a third straight defeat. The Robins were beaten 3-0 by Mickleover at Hurst Cross. Michael Clegg’s side have now conceded eight in their past three games and host Radcliffe on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Stalybridge Celtic arrested their poor run of form with a hard fought one all draw at Atherton. Will Goodwin levelled matters for Celtic in the 29^th minute after Marcus Cusani opened the scoring for the hosts in the sixth minute. Celtic travel to Gainsborough Trinity on Tuesday.

Mossley’s worrying form continued with a 5-0 defeat at Marine in the FA trophy second qualifying round. Momodou Touray scored a hat-trick for the hosts, whilst Niall Cummins and Neil Kengni both notched to cap off a memorable day for the Mariners. Mossley return to league action on Tuesday with a trip to Pontefract Collieries.

And in the North West Counties Premier Division, it was late drama at the Vestacare Stadium as Avro scored two goals in second half stoppage time to earn a 3-1 win against Whitchurch Alport. The hosts fell a goal behind in the 33^rd minute but drew matters level through Liam Ellis, before 17 year old Mason Aspin put them ahead in the 92^nd minute and Kyle Jacobs sealed the points one minute later. Avro continue with league action on Tuesday at Ashton Athletic.
