Tameside lose out at Oldham

Tameside Netball Club’s Premier One Squad returned to action at the weekend and made the short trip to local rivals Oldham.

The team were looking to end a four-game losing run against an Oldham side who had won nine and lost three of their opening 12 fixtures.

It was always going to be a tough ask given the clubs’ differing fortunes, however Tameside ran them close and narrowly missed out, losing 61-58.

With Oldham leading 46-40 at the end of the third quarter, there was plenty to play for in the final stage of the fixture. End-to-end action made for an entertaining finale, but despite their best efforts Tameside were pipped to victory at the Oldham Leisure Centre.

The result leaves Tameside in eighth spot having played 13 games this season, in which they have won four and lost eight, whilst Oldham, second in the table on 54 points, are hot on the heels of league leaders Academy.

Round 14 takes place on Sunday, February 20 with Tameside back on home soil and welcoming YWCA Bury at Manchester Metropolitan University, whilst Oldham make the journey to Academy in what could potentially be something of a season-defining game.
