Stalybridge Snooker League Appeals For New Clubs To Join

The Stalybridge Snooker League started in 1910 and has been in existence for over 110 years. It includes a mix of fun, friendly and competitive matches every Thursday night during the season.

The league originally started with billiards on a match night, but has since progressed to include single and doubles snooker. Whist is also played while the table games are in progress. The league runs a season from around September and when that finishes both team and individual knockout competitions are arranged, culminating in an AGM in late summer.

Over the years the league has had clubs from all over Tameside, such as Ashton-Under-Lyne , Stalybridge, Hyde and Mossley. A team from Denton also competes. The current season is the first since covid forced the cancellations of the 2020 campaign.

There are currently only six teams that compete, but the league is always looking to expand the number of clubs and new players to strengthen the existing teams.

The league, which is handicapped, recently came to a conclusion and was the closes for many years, with four teams in with a chance of taking the title, even up to the last match.

If you’re interested in joining, you can contact the league secretary on 07736678303 or contact him by email at ian.stalybridgesnooker@outlook.com. The league website is www.stalybridgesnooker.co.uk
