Running Bee Foundation announce changes to race dates

The Running Bee Foundation has announced a number of changes to its planned events amid the ongoing nationwide lockdown.

The Foundation, which was established in December 2018 to honour the memory of much-loved community figure Mo Done - wife of BetFred owner Fred Done - attempts to tackle the threat of childhood obesity amongst other things.

It has done this and will continue to do so by donating all profits from its events to community groups and charities in the towns and cities where their events take place.

Locally, the Running Bee Foundation hosts the Tour of Tameside - a four day running event which was re-launched in 2015 and his since grown from strength-to-strength, with participants travelling from as a far as Germany and Australia to take on the challenge.

A statement on their official website read:

"At the Running Bee Foundation, our focus has always been on our communities across the North West of England and how we can help fund health and wellbeing initiatives and projects that are working to reduce childhood obesity.

At this difficult time for everyone, our thoughts are with the most vulnerable people in our communities but also with those essential people and organisations who are delivering incredibly important frontline services across our region.

To our wonderful NHS workers, carers, emergency services, supermarkets, food delivery drivers, volunteers and many more people young and old who are all putting their community first at a time when they are as vulnerable as us all, thank you so much!

Many news outlets and commentators have said that the UK will be back to normality in September, we truly hope this will happen.

However, as a foundation which is committed to people communities, places and health & wellbeing, we don’t feel that announcing events that would take place in September is wise or helpful at this time.

As our country comes out of the COVID-19 period we want to ensure we do not put pressure on the already stretched emergency services, safety officers, volunteers and communities by staging events as those people and organisations are just beginning to get some normality back into their own lives.

Today, we are announcing our events plan until the end of the year with proposed dates and venues that are subject to approval from local councils and the safety advisory groups.

The SPAR City Of Preston 10K – Sunday 25th October 2020, Preston City Centre.

We Love OUR NHS Manchester 10k – Sunday 22nd November 2020, Heaton Park.

The City of Salford 10K – Sunday 29th November 2020, Media City. This race will also incorporate the We Love Our NHS Jingle Bee Jog. (more information to follow).

Festive Tour of Tameside Weekender – Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December 2020.

An important and exciting announcement regarding the Tour Of Tameside 2020/21 will also be unveiled in May 2020.

For runners who have already purchased race entries prior to the date changes, these entries will automatically be moved to the new dates.
