Robins settle for a point

BetVictor Premier Division: Ashton United 1-1 Warrington Town

A close fought encounter at Hurst Cross saw the points shared as the visitors fought back strongly in the second period. Joel Bembo-Leta was making his debut at right back with Casian Anghel restored on the left wing and the Robins got off to a flyer putting the Town goal under early pressure as Louis Almond turned the ball past Bobby Jones but with insufficient power to cross the line after good work between Anghel & Pritchard.

On 17 minutes Sam Sheridan had time to pick out Almond with a forward pass and he controlled instantly before firing the Robins ahead. Chris Rowney then made a last tackle to stop Brown at the other end – the resulting corner saw Bohan Dixon’s header roll against the post with the offside flag already raised. A great switch by Anghel then gave Brewster a clear sight of goal with Jones saving with his legs and on half time Sass-Davies saw a header tipped over from Sheridan’s free kick.

The Yellows restarted in determined fashion and Vassallo’s break through midfield ended with Amis only finding the side netting and sub Tony Gray then fired a great chance over the top after Brown had headed back Warren’s deep cross. Next Mackreth brought a fine save out of Hartley after Dixon had strode through midfield and the same player brought another flying save out of Ashton’s keeper.

Warren’s cross was then blocked by Hartley after Amis had been denied close in with Warrington dominating the possession and with 6 minutes left the equaliser arrived as Gray fired home Warren’s cross at the near post for a deserved leveller.
