Robins beaten in friendly at Tadcaster

Pre-Season Friendly: Tadcaster Albion 4-3 Ashton United

A high scoring encounter saw the hosts get the better of the Robins by the odd goal in seven in North Yorkshire.

Ashton were forced to field something of a makeshift defence which became more so on 12 minutes as Sam Baird had to be replaced by Liam Tomsett, eight minutes later they moved ahead as Jack Redshaw converted Ben Hardcastle’s lay off following Harry Spratt’s left wing cross.

Almost immediately Church raced into the area from a misplaced pass and saw his shot deflect on to the crossbar with the referee somewhat mysteriously awarding a penalty which saw Cassius-Gill’s effort turned on to the post by Hartley before being cleared.

Just past the half hour the right winger made amends glancing home an unmarked header from Rose’s delivery following a neat move.

The visitors were soon back in front as Redshaw tucked away his second goal as recent signing Nathan Ntula got free down the right and pulled the ball back.

Matters were levelled again as a triallist turned past Tserpes in the box and easily converted the resulting penalty and the Brewers headed into the interval in the lead as Russell won a tussle with Spratt before flighting home a great effort.

Tomsett opened the second period by just clearing the bar after a great run by Redshaw and Ashton’s number 10 was then able to complete his hat trick from the spot after Ntula had been pushed over by the home left back.

Midway through the second half and Basic sidefooted Tadcaster back ahead from a triallist’s cross and after sub Katsamackas had hit the bar for the Robins he combined with Macadam to set up a great chance for Redshaw who was just denied by Davison-Hale.

Team: Hartley, Tserpes, Spratt, Hunt, Baird, Sheridan, Hardcastle, Rowney, Ntula, Redshaw, Hudson.  Subs: Tomsett, Macadam, Katsamackas.
