Right Said Fred: Talking betting with Betfred boss Fred Done

I’ve got two words for you – VIVA RONALDO! I’m absolutely chuffed that one of, if not our greatest ever player has returned, especially as he chose us over that lot across the road.

Last Friday started out like every United fans’ nightmare with Ronaldo looking dead set on a move to City, but he came to his senses in the end and it was confirmed he would instead be returning to Old Trafford.

I can’t wait to see him back in a red shirt. He may be 36, but he remains one of the very best players and an elite goalscorer who would improve any team in world football.

Let’s hope CR7 can make an instant impact on his return to the Premier League and spearhead this talented United team into a proper title challenge.

The transfer window is now shut, so it’s time to stop the speculation and focus on the action on the pitch.

What do I make of our transfer business? Well, a lot is being made of our failure to get a defensive midfielder through the door, which I completely agree we need, but if you told me a couple of months ago that we were signing Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo this summer I would have bit your hand off.

It’s been a brilliant summer for United in my book, and a crazy window all round.

We’ve seen Lionel Messi forced out of Barcelona, where he’s spent his entire career, to join Sergio Ramos, a true Real Madrid legend, at PSG. Lukaku to Chelsea, Grealish to City for a record-breaking £100m transfer fee – Griezmann returning to Atletico Madrid on Deadline Day.

I’m happy with my club’s business anyway, and now there’s no excuse not to challenge for silverware on multiple fronts this season.

United are 5/1 at Betfred to win the Premier League title and 10/1 to win the Champions League.

City probably haven’t done as much business as their fans would have liked but bringing in Jack Grealish only improves what was already a squad head and shoulders above the rest.

They’re rightly 6/5 favourites with us to retain their Premier League crown, and 4/1 to go one better than last year and win that elusive Champions League trophy for the first time in the club’s history.

Football takes a back seat this week as the dreaded international break has arrived, but it’s Magic Weekend at Newcastle’s St James’ Park in the Betfred Super League which I am beyond excited for.

We’ve got some mouth-watering clashes to look forward to – namely the champions St Helens taking on current league leaders Catalans Dragons on Saturday, and Warrington Wolves against fierce rivals Wigan Warriors on the Sunday.

Despite being behind them in the Betfred Super League table, Saints are 2/5 favourites to topple the Dragons, who are 2/1 – while it’s 22/1 for the game to end a tie.

As for the other game, the Wire are 3/10 favourites to triumph over the Warriors (11/4), and it’s 25/1 the tie.

The Saints-Catalans game in particular could have a huge say on what happens for the rest of the season. It very much feels like a pivotal moment in the race to win the League Leaders’ Shield.

As for the Grand Final, however, it could go any way.

My traders have Saints 6/5 favourites to win it once again, with Catalans 11/4, Warrington 4/1, Wigan 10/1, Leeds 16/1, Castleford 16/1, Hull FC 33/1 and Hull KR 40/1.

Finally, my congratulations go out to Brian Hall from Cheshire who picked my pocket of a whopping £100,548 after extraordinarily predicting the results of FOURTEEN football matches.

The 58-year-old picked the winner of 12 Carabao Cup ties from the other week, plus West Ham to beat Leicester in the Premier League and Galatasaray to triumph over Hatayspor in the Turkish Super Lig.

Brian plans to put his winnings towards the cost of a new house or flat, as well as buy a motorhome so he can get away to Scotland or Wales more regularly.

Well done to him. This is a truly spectacular win, and he’s picked my pocket good and proper!
