Review: Cheshire Women's Cricket League

Here's a review of the latest developments in the Cheshire Women's Cricket League.

Division One - May 16:

Porthill Park v Oakmere – Cancelled due to rain – 8pts each

Division Three West – May 16:

 Chester Boughton Hall 2nd XI 72-5 (20; Gemma Rose 23*, Ada Christophenson 3-7) (25pts)

Nantwich 2nd XI 41-5 (20; Sally Steele 14, Rose 2-6) (4pts)

Gemma Rose impressed with both bat and ball to fire Chester to this comfortable win.

Division Three East – May 16:

 Didsbury 2nd XI 74 (26.1; Lucy Smith 14, Zara Kelly 3-6, Emily Mills 2-6, Alicia Peacock 2-11) (5pts)

Hayfield 77-7 (27.5; Lily Dalkin-Strube 29, Madeleine Hayes 23, Zoe Conway 4-10) (25pts)

A great day for Hayfield who marked their first ever competitive fixture with a victory, despite Zoe Conway's late wickets for Didsbury. The Derbyshire club used nine bowlers, and all returned creditable figures, suggesting they may have the strength in depth to really make an impact this year.

Division Four – May 16:

Lymm Oughtrington Park 50 (19; Amelie Batey 2-3, Alexandra Hartemink 2-6) (4pts)

Stockport Georgians 2nd XI 51-3 (13; Olivia Norbury 15*, Angela Evans 2-17) (25pts)

Georgians got home with overs to spare as their second team recorded their first ever victory in a competitive match.

Knockout Cup Round One – May 10:

Oakmere Kats 150-1 (20; Phoebe Cottam 32ret, Kerry Hartnett 31ret, Nicky Deane 26*, Sophie Connor 23*, Shami Ahmed 22)

Woodley 44 (16.3; Nicola Derbyshire 16, Hartnett 4-0)

Oakmere powered into the quarter finals after a dominant batting display, followed by Kerry Hartnett's four wickets in nine deliveries

May 13:

Upton 67-7 (20; Sophie Morris 16, Olivia Horsfield 2-7)

Appleton Tigers 68-5 (15.2; Holly McCurrie 23, Emilia Lamb 20, Charlie Scudder 3-21)

Upton’s bowlers were able to inflict some damage, but Appleton still reached their target with almost five overs to spare. All of Appleton’s many bowling options produced economical spells as Upton were unable to get their run rate much above three per over.

Stockport Georgians 144-3 (20; Emily Thomas 30ret, Gaby McKeever 30ret, Lucy Neill 27, Grace Woosey 25*)

Ashton-on-Mersey 49-8 (20; Becky Baldock 27*, Becky Scholes 2-3, Hannah Budgell 2-3)

Georgians produced a convincing performance to progress to a quarter-final with Didsbury. Gaby McKeever reached the retirement score of 30 from just 17 deliveries to lead the way to an imposing total, before Ashton-on-Mersey lost several wickets early in their reply.

Development Knockout Round One – May 10:

Didsbury 2nd XI 100-3 (20; Lucy Smith 27ret, Marianne Lea 25ret, Chloe Hawes 24,Jenny Wallace 2-25)

Langley 43-9 (20; Ella Hirst 11, Lea 3-4, K Carson 2-5, Rosie Cooke 2-6)

Didsbury recorded this convincing win to set up a quarter-final with Hawarden Park - a repeat of the final in 2019 when this competition was last played

National Knockout Round One – May 14:

Wolverhampton 75-5 (20)

Porthill Park 76-6 (19.4)

(performance information not available at present)

Porthill won this nailbiter with just two balls to spare to progress to round two.

May 16:

Nantwich Vipers 78-8 (20; Beth Hughes 23, Millie Baldwin 3-18)

Leigh 37 (18; Kelsey Barker 4-10, Charlotte Kirk 2-0, Hughes 2-13)

Nantwich decisively won this all-Cheshire League match as Kelsey Barker ripped through Leigh’s top four to make an early dent in their hopes of chasing down the total. Nantwich now have another all-CWCL match against Didsbury in the next round, while Leigh go into the Plate draw.
