Plenty of pedal power for George

A group of hardy cyclists got on their bikes to raise funds for a worthy cause.

The cyclists, who jumped on their bikes last weekend, raised money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, a disease which recently received a lot of publicity through the work of ex-Leeds Rhinos player Rob Burrows and currently affects former Ashton United player George Melling.

The cyclists included Lancaster City defender Andy Teague and his manager Mark Fell.

They started at Kendal Town on Friday, then cycled between each of the clubs where George played in his career.

They visited the grounds of Lancaster City, Bamber Bridge, Coppull United, Altrincham, Northwich Victoria and Leek Town before landing at Hurst Cross on Sunday morning.

After grabbing much needed drinks and snacks (plus a spot of treatment for Mark Fell, who had come off his bike earlier in the day) the intrepid group headed for Nelson before getting a well-earned rest at their final port of call, Longridge Town.

Former Ashton and Altrincham player Ian Senior, who now runs SK Kits, has produced a special football shirt depicting the colours of all the clubs George has represented – these are available from George Melling himself via Twitter (@GeorgeMelling5) in order to raise money for the MND Association.
