Oldham prop Scott Law retires on a high

In his nine years at Keighley they called him the Law-Man and 33-year-old prop Scott Law lived up to his name in his one season at Oldham.

As the only Roughyeds ever-present in a 26-match cup and league programme in the never-to-be-forgotten 2019 promotion season, Scott certainly laid down the Law.

He's retired now and emigrated to Australia but he wanted to sign off on a high and help Roughyeds win promotion to the Betfred Championship and he played a huge part in that, as did another one-season man from Keighley, Ritchie Hawkyard.

Top ten appearances were as follows: Law 26, Owen 25, Bent 24, McComb 24, Whittel 24, Hewitt 23, Spencer 23, Hawkyard 22, Joy 21, Wilkinson 20.

Given that Law, Owen, Whittel, Spencer, Joy and Wilkinson spent a lot of time on the bench, as props and hookers generally do in the modern game, it's reasonable to assume that Bent, an exception to the general rule regarding forwards, McComb, Hewitt and Hawkyard probably spent the most time on the pitch across the season as a whole.

There were occasions when Bent was 'spelled' but there were also a lot of games when he went the full 80 with his second-rowers Danny Langtree and Danny Bridge.

We could talk also about Bent's phenomenal tackle stats, but that's another story for another day.

As for try scorers, 'Langers' was again on top with 18 (an average of one per game !), followed by McComb with 16 and Hawkyard with 12.

Top ten try scorers: Langtree 18, McComb 16, Hawkyard 12, Wilkinson 10, Hewitt 7, Johnson 7, Maders 7, Bridge 6, Crook 6, Holmes 6.

Goals: Crook 67, Hewitt 51 (plus a drop goal), Adam Brook 12.
