Glossop-based social enterprise The Be Well Partnership has hailed Glossop North End Community Club's planned new facility at its Cemetery Road site as "potentially a fantastic engine of wellbeing".
They have also said that, when the new pitches and clubhouse are completed at the sports hub, they hope to be using it from day one.
The partnership of four not-for-profit community interest companies - which has been delivering everything from gentle walks and chess to allotmenteering for older people in all parts of Glossop and beyond since 2012 - believes that doing a purposeful activity in a fun, supportive and sociable environment helps make people feel happier and be healthier.
They feel that the new development will be a perfect base, as Chair of Be Well, Mick Owen, explains.
He said: “We have had tremendous support from community venues over the years and sessions such as Walking Football, which we brought to Glossop in June 2012, would never have been a success without facilities like the 3G pitch at Glossopdale School.
"The new site will give the town more opportunities to book spaces to play and, with the addition of what looks like being a tremendous clubhouse – complete with somewhere to have a brew and a chat – we can look to develop walking versions of Netball, Rugby, Rounders and even Hockey during the school day.”
Glossop North End Community Club's Development Officer, Ben Mills, has also welcomed Be Well’s interest in using the new facility.
He said: “We really want the town to view the new site as a community hub and Be Well are exactly the kind of organisation - local, community-focussed and not-for-profit - we want to partner with.”
Glossop North End Community Club is still appealing to the local community to help raise the final sum of money needed to create the new facility.
