Lilywhites fight back to take victory

NPL West: Kidsgrove Athletic 1-3 Mossley

Trailing 1-0 at the break Mossley put in a superb second half display to take the points with a 3-1 win at Kidsgrove Athletic on Saturday which takes the Lilywhites to top spot in the League for the second time this season.

With the squad down to bare bones as David Fish was only able to name three subs it proved to be a remarkable performance.

Kidsgrove are no mugs and played some good football in the first half while their high speed press meant Mossley had little time on the ball and were often hurried in their passing.

Still it was the Lilywhites with the best chances. Pratt and Fawns in particular were unlucky not to break the deadlock before Kidsgrove took the lead on 33 minutes.

A free kick was only partially cleared and Kidsgrove left back Alex Morris wasn't closed down quickly enough as his low 25 yard drive flew in the bottom corner giving Hadlow no chance.

Mossley couldn't find a first half goal and the game was soon following a similar pattern after the break only this time Kidsgrove's press was proving less effective and that trend continued through a second half which Mossley dominated.

Mason Fawns was the instigator of all that was good about Mossley's stunning second half performance as he began to weave his magic. It was from his run and simple pass which saw midfielder Jordan Butterworth hit a superb strike into the top corner from fully thirty yards on 63 minutes to draw Mossley level.

From then on it was mostly Mossley versus young Kidsgrove keeper Ryan Brown as the home side's number one made several very good saves before he was again beaten, this time by Harry Pratt, but the off-side flag was raised and the goal chalked off.

Mossley continued to threaten and finally took the lead with nine minutes remaining. Fawns' right wing corner was flicked on to Jack Grundy who arrived at the far post to smash home off the underside of the bar from ten yards.

The points were sealed four minutes later with another super goal. Mason Fawns drove forward from midfield skipping past challenges before playing into Pratt who slipped the ball through for Andy Keogh to bundle home from close range to complete the scoring and maintain Mossley's 100% away record in the League.

As results elsewhere went in Mossley's favour, the Lilywhites ended the day back on top of the table with a massive game to come at Runcorn Linnets on Tuesday evening.
