Hyde's winless league run extends to eight matches

BetVictor Premier Division: Warrington Town 4-1 Hyde United

The short trip to Cantilever Park was one to forget as Hyde were defeated 4-1 by Warrington Town, making it now eight league games without victory.

The Tigers' first half performance, for the most part, was encouraging, often going toe to toe with the home side making it a great watch, but a below-par second half showing meant the hosts' experience and quality shone through.

As in recent games, the downfall is from soft goals to concede, the first coming from a set piece as a free header at the far post came back across goal for Tony Gray to poke home.

Hyde were level after an impressive finish by Sharp, his first for the club, firing into the bottom corner from just outside the area.

Shortly after, Warrington had a chance to regain the lead when the referee pointed to the spot, seemingly spotting an off the ball incident involving Gray who went down, to the bemusement of the Tigers, however Mewitt saved the spot kick well down to his right from Mackreth. But again, Warrington went in front rather cheaply as a ball over the top saw Dixon race away, shrugging off Fagbola and going round Mewitt to slot home.

Any chances of a second half comeback were halted 10 minutes after the restart when Garrity was free to get his head onto a low cross to make it 3-1. The final score ended 4-1 when Gray doubled his tally, reacting first to a quick free kick, the ball skimming off his head and over Mewitt to seal, in the end, a comfortable win for the Yellows.
