Hyde United bid farewell to first team manager

Hyde United say farewell to manager Dave McGurk as he bids goodbye to the Tigers.

Dave made his debut at the club as assistant to Darren Kelly in 2016, a season that saw huge success for the team. He then took over as manager in 2019 following a reshuffle of staff.

He was able to carry the club to both the NPL Cup and Cheshire Senior Cup Semi-Finals before the Covid outbreak then nullified the season.

In a statement for Hyde United, Dave says that the last few days have been 'emotional' as he passes the baton on.

"Being manager of a part time club is a very hard job. I’ve loved every minute but the last few months have proved really difficult to get a work/life/family balance.

"I simply can’t put the time or energy into the job to meet the demands that I expect of myself as a manager. I plan to take a couple of months with my family to recharge and I’ll come back into football with a new challenge at some point.

"It’s been a brilliant 5 years of my life and I now wish Hyde and everyone associated with the club the very best of luck going forward. I’ve made a lot of friends there and I’ll be down as soon as I get the opportunity," he says.

He leaves the club in a strong position after players proved their worth towards the end of last season and he is certain the team will give it their all in future games.

John McCombe has agreed to take charge of First Team affairs in the short term and will be in charge for the Home match tomorrow (Tuesday 24th) v Grantham Town.
