Hyde slip to second defeat in three games

BetVictor Premier Division: Hyde United 2-3 Mickleover Sports

Hyde United have dropped to seventh in the table after a 3-2 defeat to Mickleover Sports at Ewen Fields on Tuesday night.

The Tigers fell two goals behind in the clash but showed great resilience to level matters through Daniel Turner and Tom Pratt by the 74th minute. However, Hyde's efforts proved to be in vain as Mickleover snatched an 87th minute winner to inflict a second defeat in three on Dave McGurk's side.

Hyde entered the games as favourites but fell a goal behind in the seventh minute when former Premier League striker Lee Hughes headed home Stuart Beavon's cross. Hyde responded well and created their own chances soon after, the best of which fell to Tom Pratt in the 23rd minute, although his shot drifted just wide of the post. Martyn Woolford had an opportunity to level matters soon after, but his effort from outside the box flew well over the bar.

The visitors thought they had doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time, but Pablo Mills' effort was cleared off the line and cleared of danger. However, it took less than a minute after the restart for Mickleover to grab their second, as Nathan Modest beat goalkeeper Luke Mewitt to a long ball over the top and flicked it into the net.

It was going to take something special for Hyde to get back into the game, and they were given a lifeline in the 57th minute when Dan Turner unleashed an effort which hit the underside of the bar and crossed the line. The Tigers pressed for an equaliser and their efforts were rewarded 17th minutes later, as Turner found Pratt at the back post and he fired an effort past Nathan Broome in goal.

It looked as if the points were going to be shared as the game was entering its dying minutes, but Mickleover had other ideas and grabbed an 85th minute winner through Stuart Beavon, who chested the ball down before firing home.
