Hyde sack Gannon after dismal run of form

Hyde United are currently on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Jim Gannon.

The former Stockport County, Peterborough United and Motherwell boss was relieved of his duties just 48 hours before the Tigers’ NPL Premier fixture against Warrington Town at Ewen Fields on Saturday.

Gannon was appointed as the Hyde manager in September 2021 and oversaw his last game in the 3-2 defeat at Radcliffe on Tuesday 8 February.

During his five months in charge, the 53-year-old won six out of 21 league games, but did guide the club to the Manchester Premier Cup semi-final, which is scheduled to take place next Tuesday against Trafford.

A statement uploaded to the club’s website said:

“After a great deal of deliberation, the Board of Hyde United Football Club has taken the difficult decision to part company with manager Jim Gannon. Although there was an upturn in results at the end of 2021, matters have not progressed as well as was hoped since the New Year, and Hyde United finds itself amongst the clubs in danger of relegation.

“The Board is sorry that things have not worked out for Jim at Hyde, and hopes that, with his significant football experience, he will be successful at another club in the future.  The Board would like to thank Jim for his contribution in what has been a difficult season, and wish him well.

“A further announcement about a new manager will be made at the earliest opportunity.”

Martin Coyn took charge of the Tigers’ fixture against Warrington Town last weekend on an interim-basis and guided his side to a vital three points with a 2-1 victory.

Hyde were forced to come from behind in the fixture and staged a late comeback with goals coming in the 81st minute and 89th minute, with the result boosting their survivial chances and leaving them in 19th spot ahead of Tuesday’s fixtures.
