Hyde return to winning ways

Hyde 136-4 Grappenhall 135 ao ECB CCL Premier Division

Hyde got back to winning ways with a comfortable six wicket victory over bottom of the table Grappenhall.

After winning the toss, the home side chose to bat first on a sun-drenched afternoon.

Grappenhall made a steady start, reaching 26 before Glenn Hannah removed Will Fell for six.

Jason Whittaker then claimed the wicket of Albert Pennington nine runs later, as Hyde began to take control.

Adam Roylance (50) was the mainstay of the innings, but when he was the fifth man out they had only scored 71 and the hosts were in real trouble as they lost their sixth wicket 10 runs later.

Olly Knight (42) offered some resistance as Grappenhall were bowled out for just 135, with Danny Cranmer taking 4-23 and Cole Turner 3-26.

Hyde’s reply got off to the worst possible start as they lost skipper Tom Partridge (0) with just three runs on the board and when Knight removed Balderson for 11, Hyde still required the best part of a hundred runs for victory.

With the batsmen struggling for runs in recent weeks, Hyde fans were not taking anything for granted and when they lost David Fisher (25) Hyde were struggling at 44-3.

Thankfully Elliot Young and David Fitzsimmons steadied the ship and led Hyde to the brink of victory before Young went for an excellent 43.

Fitzsimmons (35no) and Ben Allcock made sure there were no more alarms and Hyde cruised to victory with more than 36 overs remaining.

l This weekend Hyde face a double-header against Neston at Werneth Low.

On Saturday they host them in a league game before they play the same opposition in the semi-final of the Cheshire Cup, with Sunday’s game getting under way at 1pm.
