High hopes for Stalybridge Snooker League to return in October

Following the coronavrius outbreak, the Stalybridge Snooker League was forced to postpone activity until further notice.

The League was set to resume on August 6, but following the recent lockdown in the north west, the committee decided to cancel the rest of the season.

The positions would stand as they are and hopefully we can start our next season in October as we normally do.

This development means there will be an AGM/Mini Presentation night around mid-September with the league starting two weeks later. At the AGM the officers for next season will be elected and they will stay for 12 months.

The Presentation night will include the Snooker and Whist League Trophies with a few individual ones. Hyde CC will be crowned snooker champions for the second year, with St Peters the runner up. In the Whist League, Mossley B are winners with Denton CC runners up on count back. The individual trophies will be for the Darts League, Man of the Match, Players League, Snooker Highest Break, and Billiards Highest Breaks winners. There will also be the Annual Sportsmanship Trophy.

It is hoped we can get going again next season, while being covid compliant, when the first matches will be the traditional George Fletcher and Gordon Clay Trophy finals. This year the snooker will be played between Hyde CC and St Peters while the whist will be between Mossley B and Denton CC.

The league is always looking for new players and teams and if anyone is interested in getting more information please contact us by email at ian.stalybridgesnooker@outlook.com or go to our website at www.stalybridgesnooker.co.uk.
