Hazel double sees off Ashton

NPL Premier Division: Ashton United 1-3 Whitby Town

Whitby continued their recent good run against the Robins with a deserved victory at Hurst Cross in front of 257 fans.

The hosts handed a debut to Mubarak Adarabioyo in place of the injured Tom Bentham and were first on to the attack as Hardcastle’s square pass found Macadam well placed to fire over.

Hardcastle’s attempt was then cleared close in by Nathan Dyer following a good pass by Tserpes, but Adarabioyo made the wrong connection on Tserpes’ right wing cross.

Jack Redshaw then shot just past the far post after Harry Coates interception.

Two minutes later the game sprung to life as Marcus Giles’ turn in the area saw the ball roll into the path of ex-Ashton striker Jacob Hazel for an unmissable chance.

Two minutes later Coates’ long ball dropped over a defender’s head, allowing Liam Tomsett to cut on to his left foot before finding the far corner.

A fter another three minutes the Seasiders regained the lead as Giles volleyed home from a fine delivery by Dyer.

In the second period and after Hazel had placed a pass just too far ahead of Daniel Rowe, Hardcastle won a corner and then fired in a shot which deflected narrowly past the diving figure of Coates.

Just before the hour a loose pass by Michael Raynes saw Giles’ pass set up Hazel for a confident finish.

A flick on then saw Macdonald race into the area with Hartley out to save and after Coates had failed to get hold of an effort from the edge of the area, sub Williams was booked for a foul on Hazel and Hackett curled the resulting free-kick wide.

Ashton United: Hartley, Tserpes Spratt, Raynes (Warren 70), Coates, Rowney (Williams 70), Macadam, Hardcastle, Adarabioyo, Redshaw (Hudson 67), Tomsett. Subs not used: Katsamagkas, Ollerenshaw.
