Hattersley boxer is back in the ring

Hattersley boxer Luke Evans is ready to step back in the ring as he prepares for his upcoming fight on an exciting undercard.

Stepping out of the ring after winning his 11th fight in September, Luke felt a huge sense of euphoria. He had suffered numerous setbacks in 2021 and this was his chance to turn his back on all of that and show what he was made of.

He successfully did this and began looking forward to 2022 and the achievements that he would collate.

Dedicating months and training several times a day, Luke was given a date to fight in March and worked intensely to reach this date.

Gaining the support of his incredibly loyal fanbase and selling stacks of tickets, he was incredibly disappointed to find out on the day of the fight that his opponent was no longer allowed to compete.

“My supporters had paid their hard-earned money to come and watch me and to find out on the day that I would not be stepping into the ring was awful.

“I’d worked so hard for months to be ready on that night and didn’t see a penny for it,” he said.

However, every cloud has a silver lining and not long after the cancellation, Luke had some exciting news to share.

Announcing his new fight date of April 16, he was over the moon to find out that he would be fighting on Conor Benn’s undercard.

“This is everything that I’ve worked for as a fighter, to be on a card like this is incredible.

“Being able to fight in the AO Arena, it’s scary just saying that and hopefully this event will catapult me out there and allow me to have the audience that I feel like I deserve.”

He will also be boxing alongside his gym-mate Campbell Hatton, who has earned his place on the undercard too.

“Campbell’s been on this big shows since the start of his career and I’ve been giving him a lot of advice because he’s new to the professional side of the sport.

“However, for this fight I’ll be going to him for tips as it’s something I’ve never done before.

“We’re so excited to be on the same card and so is our trainer Matthew Hatton, we bounce off each other in the gym and it’ll be great to fight on the same night,” Luke said.

Luke says he’s now feeling positive ahead of the fight and is looking forward to performing on the big stage, ‘putting his name in the shop window’.

“I’m at a level now where I don’t need someone to get in the ring and beat up. I need someone to come and test me and show me the kind of level that I’ll be competing at in the near future.

“I know many fighters would be very fortunate to be in my position, so I’m going to take full advantage of this opportunity.

“I need to perform and capture the eyes of Eddie Hearn and the big promotors.”

He trains as often as possible, multiple times a day and has little time to rest. This is something he is capable of doing thanks to the support of his amazing family.

“I’ve got a very supportive partner everyone plays their part in my family. My routine is non-stop and if I’m not in the gym then I’m at home being a dad.

“I’m so grateful for my family and also for my coach. He will switch things up ever so slightly and it will benefit me massively. He takes the weight off my shoulders and allows me to preform,” he says.

For Luke, 2022 is about building his fanbase – something which he says he is already ‘extremely proud’ of – and landing as many fights as he can.

“I’m looking forward to being active again and hopefully soon enough I will be looking at a big title.”

He will now spend the last few weeks fine tuning his skills and preparing for perhaps the biggest fight of his career.

Fighting in the Manchester AO Arena, on a highly sought out undercard, these prove the talent and the dedication that Luke has as a fighter, and his name will undoubtedly be in lights soon enough.
