Glossop Under 21s Are Up For The Cup

Glossop North End's under 21s faced a very strong Manchester Powerhouse side in the Sunday Amateur Cup semi-final at Platt Fields.

The boys’ last result was a 3-0 win over Poynton JFC on Thursday night which gave them much confidence coming into this important cup game.

The first half started with Powerhouse having much of the ball but when GNE had the opportunities to counter, they proved to create the better chances with Max Kennedy hitting the post from a direct free kick. The Hillmen hit the post again just before half time, Kennedy with the free kick again but was saved well by the goalkeeper however Solly Richards could not rebound the shot into the goal.
It was goalless at half time score which was not enough for both teams if they wanted to secure their place into the final. A big second half was needed for GNE and they proved themselves worthy winners with 4 great goals.

The first goal was scored by Hussein Mohamed who took a low shot into the bottom right-hand corner. It took a slight deflection off a Powerhouse player which made it more difficult for the opposing goalkeeper to attempt to save it.

Glossop’s second goal of the game came from the penalty spot. Rob Watson confidently stepped up and kicked the ball into the bottom right-hand corner. The goalkeeper went the right way but because the shot was so well took, he was not able to reach far enough.

The last 2 came in quick succession. Our substitutes linked so well brilliantly for both. Papis Touray assisted the third who was able to pass through a bundle of players to kick the ball to the path of Ojalo Touray showed his strength to keep the ball and to score the fourth and final goal.
This has proved to be a fantastic result for the Hillmen who one game are only away to winning the Manchester FA, Sunday Amateur Cup, a first for the club.
