Glossop Gain Important Three Points

BetVictor South East: Lincoln united 1-3 Glossop North End

Glossop North End had a weekend to remember as they travelled to Lincoln United and came away with the three points to move closer to safety.

The Hillmen were in 15th place going into the game with Lincoln representing a great chance to climb the table as they sat just above the Hillmen in 13th.

However, it was the hosts who started the game brightly as they threatened an early goal but Glossop keeper Dale Lathum was in fine form. But in the 7th minute, Lincoln had the opening goal of the game as a long ball was flicked into the path of Daniel North who finished beautifully by curling the ball into the right corner with his first touch.

Lincoln’s lead didn’t last long however as just one minute later Glossop had scored to instantly level the game. A long ball was played over the top of the Lincoln defence towards the big presence of Braulio Maeico who bullied the defender to get in behind and he made no mistake with his finish as he chipped the ball over the keeper and into the net.

In the 16th minute, Glossop were nearly ahead as Maeico again was driving at the defence on the right-hand side and he got past his man with some trickery before sending a curling effort towards goal which was palmed away well.

Lincoln had a corner which looked dangerous, but the ball managed to fall to Scott Kay who sent the team off on a counter-attack which quickly led to Bakari Coulibaly being unleashed down the left and his effort was tipped around the post for a corner. From that corner, Glossop was ahead after the ball was eventually flicked in by Luke Merrill to send the visitors in with the lead at half-time.

Glossop started the second-half with intent as Mohammed Sheriff turned the defence with some sublime skill only to drag a low drilled shot just past the post.

The three points were sealed for the Hillmen in the 60th minute as some great play by Maeico eventually led to a shot which forced a great save, but the shot was parried onto the path of Sheriff who slotted the ball into the open net.

Glossop saw the game out superbly and with those three points, they rose to 14th in the table leapfrogging Lincoln in the process.
