Droylsden suffer heavy defeat on home turf

BetVictor North West: Droylsden 1-4 Pontefract Collieries

Droylsden’s unbeaten run came to a crashing end as Pontefract recovered from going behind after just six minutes to score four at the Butchers Arms.

A Daniel Wilkins volley from outside the area saw the home side take the lead but Collieries could have equalised just a minute later from the restart, Agar’s attempt just going wide.

Pontefract continued to press, Redford finding  Rotheray but with Thompson advancing, the striker sliced his shot wide while at the other end George West found himself one on one with goalkeeper Malkowski who saved with his feet at the near post.

The visitors deservedly equalised just before half time, Rotheray finding the bottom corner of the Bloods net.

Straight from the restart, Pontefract started strong, Thompson saving with his feet from Lumsden and Cyrus heading over at the back post unmarked from the corner.

New signing Sam Agar put the visitors in front, a flying header finding the bottom corner from Greenhough’s cross.

Substitute Aaron Burns forced a good save from Malkowski but as Droylsden pressed for an equaliser, gaps opened at the back.

Redford made it three with nine minutes left and Thompson kept the Bloods in the game saving from Lumsden from close range.

Substitute Layton Swaine scored a fourth deep into injury time, latching onto the rebound after Thompson had saved again from Lumsden to end a bad afternoon for the Bloods.
