Covid-19 halts Hyde game

After more than three months of waiting, Hyde CC’s cricket season got off to a false start as their game at Alderley Edge was dramatically called off less than two hours before the first ball was due to bowled.

Officials at the Werneth Low club were notified on Saturday morning that one of Alderley Edge’s players had been in contact with someone who had tested positive for Covid-19 and had since trained with his teammates.

As a result, both first and second team matches were called off following lengthy conversations between both clubs, umpires and the league, in addition to Alderley Edge obtaining medical advice.

It was a bitter blow for the Hyde players and in particular new signings Adam Worrall and Jake Hill who were both set to face their former side.

Whilst Hyde players were left game-less, rising star George Balderson was shining for Lancashire against Yorkshire at Headingley, in a two-day pre-season fixture.

With Lancashire struggling on 107-5, Balderson joined Danny Lamb at the crease and the pair shared an unbroken 116 run stand as the Red Rose men held on for a draw.
