Clough bags first goal for Wigan

Former Audenshaw School pupil Zach Clough scored his first goal for Wigan Athletic in Sunday's final game of the season against Swindon Town.

The 26-year-old, who signed for the Latics on a short-term loan deal in January, gave the hosts a 3-1 lead in the 60th minute after flicking home from close range. However, it mattered little as a late comeback from the already relegated Robins saw them pull a goal back in the 77th minute before snatching two goals in stoppage time to take maximum points. The result was immaterial in the end as Wigan secured their status as a League One club in their previous fixture at Champions Hull City.

Following the game, Clough Tweeted the following:

Clough's first goal for the club put a happy ending on an otherwise disappointing and frustrating season for the forward. Since falling out of favour at Nottingham Forest in 2018 - a club that signed him for £3,000,000 in January 2017 - Clough has spent periods of time away from the City Ground on loan at Bolton and Rochdale.

Clough's contract is set to expire at Forest this summer, so it's currently unclear as to who the forward, from Denton, will be playing for next season.
