Clooney is Bloods' September star man

Exciting young forward Rhys Clooney has been named Droylsden’s Player of the Month for September.

The 19-year-old, from Stockport, has been an integral figure for Dave Pace’s side so far this season, missing just one of their 14 games in all competitions so far - the 4-0 defeat at Radcliffe Borough in the Integro Cup.

Clooney netted the Bloods’ first goal of September, as his 86th-minute goal helped to salvage a 1-1 draw at home to Prescot Cables.

It was his second strike of the campaign, after netting in the 3-3 draw at home to Colne on the opening day of the BetVictor North West Division season.

The former Cheadle Town and Maine Road man was presented with his prize - a crate of beer courtesy of Bowland Brewery, the official cask beer of the Northern Premier League - on the pitch before Saturday’s FA Trophy preliminary-round tie against Workington.

He played for 79 minutes before being replaced by Aaron Burns in the 1-1 draw at the Butchers Arms.
