REPORT: Chadderton beat Garstang in the league

Chadderton returned to North West Counties action in style as they beat Garstang 2-1 at the Ark Fleetech Stadium.

Chadderton went into the game knowing that a win would still keep them within touching distance of the play-off places and cap off a reasonable start to the season for David Fish’s men.

It was a dull first half as neither team created many chances but Chadderton looked comfortable on the ball and seemed to control the game well. On the 43rd minute, Garstang flipped the game on its head after Jake Salisbury raced through on goal and slotted under the keeper to put the visitors 1-0 up.

It must have been a great team talk from Chadderton manager David Fish as the Oldham based team controlled the second half from the whistle.

On the 54th minute, Garstang thought they were 2-0 up after Alex Hay headed home only to be greeted by an offside flag and the goal was disallowed.

In the 67th minute, Chadderton had their equaliser after Jordan Butterworth smashed the ball into the net.

Just four minutes later Chadderton had the chance to take the lead after they were awarded a penalty. Jack Turnbull stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to wrap up the three points.

After the game, it was confirmed that Joe Richards was Chadderton’s player of the month for August.

Speaking after the announcement manager David Fish said “Joe is a fit lad who brings a lot of energy and tenacity to his performances. A product of the EDS and Reserve teams, Joe continues to develop his game and is a well-respected member of the team, showing signs of growing into a leader.”
