Busy times at Bramhall

Bramhall Golf Club were again magnificent hosts for the latest Manchester Alliance fixture.

They provided a splendidly presented and challenging course and a superb revamped clubhouse for the players to enjoy during a day when the weather was not too kind on the later players.

The pro am section saw the Alliance’s regular star Graham Cox (Lymm) find an outstanding partner in Aidan Hanberry (Warrington) who boosted them to a winning 43 points.

It was two points clear of the new Lancashire PGA champion Craig Corrigan and his regular partner Mark Riley (Leigh).

There was a logjam of five pairs on 40 points with the cpo going in favour of Scott Jackson (Disley) and Neil McGuiness (Alderley Edge) from Phil Archer (Poulton Park) and Anton Johnson (Warrington), Ollie Pantoja and Gabe Bagshaw (Ashton-on-Mersey), Tim Maxwell (Knutsford and Joe Kirwan (Bramhall) and Davyhulme Park’s Martyn Hamer and Mark Perrin.

It was also close in the individual pro section with Tim Maxwell and Phil Archer tied on 36 points, one more than Jamie Howarth (Davenport).

There were new winners in the Am Am section with Leigh’s dynamic duo of Jody Kerner and Dave Barrett winning a cpo on 41 from Craig Tinto (Dukinfield) and Jake Foster (Styal), one more than Stamford’s James Woodcock and Kevin Duffy.

The final prize of nearest the pin was won by Ian Ridgway (Disley)

l The Knock Out finals day at Denton proved to be a big hit with great weather and some thrilling matches with good support from members.

Brookes and the Whittaker Bowl for the ladies singles went to Angela Ellam who prevailed from Linda Leung.

The Committee Trophy for men’s pairs went to David Sibanda and Amir Nazir for the win over Len Walker and Terry Pottage and the Mixed Pairs champions were Lucy and Graham Pollit from Lana and Joe Mulhearn.

Denton’s busy seniors have introduced a new trophy for their section – The Covid-19 Trophy and the first winner was Colin Ingham with 40 points from Frank Goodwin and David Watts, both 38.

There were more celebrations at Denton as Ian Bardsley brought his son Daniel as a guest player and he notched a hole-in-one on the par three fifth hole.

l A Junior Stableford at Ashton was won in style by Coby Wood with 43 points from Rory Penning 37 and Harry Thornley 34.

It was close in a BB Stableford at Ashton with Mike Kelly and Nigel Kay top of the shop with 44 points, one more than L and J Lewis, A Jones and N Hampson and A Lilley and P Zrada.

The Sunday Stableford at Ashton had the three divisions led in by Paul Eddlestone after a cpo on 38 points with Neil Pragnall, Michael Tobin with a lusty 42 and Fred Turner 36.

l Pro comp action at Brookdale saw Steven Todd lead in with 40 points from Stuart Naismith 38 and Steven Armstrong 37.

l Crompton and Royton ladies were in Stableford action with Susan Byrne on top with 32 points from Carolyn Williamson 30.

C and R’s men played for the Zacharius Cup and the delighted winner was Jon Thompson 68, one ahead of Gary Melling and Joseph Ryder.

l It needed a cpo on 41 points to see Ian Child into top spot in a Stableford at Dukinfield from William Longden, two more than Andrew Garbett.

Duki ladies were also in Stableford mode with Helen Slattery a clear winner with 33 points from Kath Stafford 29.
