Avro Suffer Defeat At Winsford

North West Counties Premier Division: Winsford United 3-1 Avro

It was a 3-1 defeat for Avro over the weekend as they made the trip to Winsford for a game played in touch conditions.

Many games over the weekend had been called off in non-league due to the amount of rain in the days leading up to the fixtures. Avro’s game at Winsford went ahead after some last-ditch grounds work but the pitch was heavy and Avro struggled to play on it.

The game got off to the worst possible start for Avro as they were behind after just four minutes. Sam Madeley managed to find some space in the box and he headed past Jordan Latham to give Winsford the lead.

On the 20th minute, Avro tried to respond with their first effort of the game but Anthony Hough’s shot went just wide.

On the 39th minute, Leon Wright thought he had equalised for Avro after he got on the end of a terrific ball from Lewis Lacy to smash it home but he was greeted by the offside flag.

The second half again started in an even fashion with both teams struggling to play with the ball on an awkward surface.

On the 61st minute, Winsford found themselves 2-0 up as Madeley got his second goal of the game in similar circumstances as he headed past Jordan Lathum.

But less than ten minutes later Avro pulled a goal back as Lee O’Brien turned in the box and fired the ball into the bottom corner to set up a tasty finish.

Avro piled on the pressure but just couldn’t create any concrete chances as Winford’s defence stood strong. In the 93rd minute, Winsford wrapped up the three points as Madeley confirmed his hat-trick with a composed finish.

A heavy defeat for Avro on the day which leaves them 12th in the table.
