Avro hit five for second successive game

North West Counties Premier Division: Congleton Town 1-5 Avro

Avro FC scored five goals for the second consecutive match in a comprehensive 5-1 victory away at Congleton Town on Saturday.

A brace from Kyle Jacobs and further strikes from captain Louis Potts, Harry Odell and Alex Frost saw the Oldham-based side earn a second away win of the campaign and move up to 10th in the North West Counties Premier Division.

Keen to build on their thumping 5-2 home win over Burscough last Wednesday, Avro - wearing their new orange away kit - came out of the blocks at a fast pace and went ahead after just four minutes in the Cheshire sunshine through a header from Potts.

Just 10 minutes later, Jacobs collected a loose clearance on the edge of the box and stroked a shot into the corner to double their lead.

For the second game running, Avro were 3-0 up inside 20 minutes as Odell produced a smart finish to increase the advantage.

It almost got better on 42 minutes when they were awarded a penalty but Potts couldn't get his second of the game as he fired over the crossbar.

However, it wasn't long before Avro got their fourth of the game as Jacobs doubled his day's total just before the break with a stunning free-kick from around 30 yards.

James Hampson and Lee O'Brien's side started the second half with the same intent as Frost made it 5-0 with a fine side-foot finish in the 48th minute.

They had further chances to add to their tally - the best of which saw Joe Rathbone denied by Craig Ellison when one-on-one with the Congleton keeper.

But there was to be no clean sheet for Avro keeper Adam Rigby as Congleton substitute Jordan Lorde grabbed a consolation in the 89th minute.

However, it wouldn't take the shine off what was another impressive performance from Avro, who leapfrogged their opponents into the top half of the table and now have nine points from seven league games ahead of another away trip - this time to Ashton Athletic on Saturday (21 September).
