Mixed fortunes for Avro and Chadderton

Both of our Oldham based non-league teams were in action over the weekend as Avro drew 2-2 with Winsford United and Chadderton were hammered 5-0 away at Shelley FC.

Avro welcomed Winsford to the Vestacare Stadium knowing that a win would keep their faint playoff hopes alive. They started well as Joe Bevan put Avro in front after just 4 minutes after a good finish. After Avro’s dominance, they will have been very frustrated to find themselves conceding two quick goals. In the 35th minute, Nathan Cotterall did brilliantly to the rise from a corner and smash the ball home. Just one minute later it was 2-1 to the away side as Samuel Marshall remained composed to finish neatly. The final goal came in the 65th minute as Joe Bevan was brought down and the referee awarded Avro a penalty. Kyle Jacobs stepped up and slotted it home. Avro had chances to take all the points but Winsford defended well. Both teams were reduced to ten men in the last minute as Jacob Wood and Obi Anoruo were given their marching orders.

Chadderton had a humiliating afternoon as they were thumped 5-0 by Shelley FC. Craig Billington opened the scoring in the 25th minute after a mix up at the back allowed him to go through on goal and he slotted the ball through the legs of Chadderton keeper Jordan Hadlow. It was 2-0 in the 55th minute after Adam Daffern controlled a corner and sent a looping volley over Hadlow. Daniel Keane made it 3 by powering a header into the roof of the net. Matthew Waller made it 4-0 as he caught Hadlow out and curled an effort over the keeper. The victory was confirmed in the 89th minute as Waller again scored by chipping the ball over Hadlow.
