Ashton Pumas Meet Inspirational Lionesses

Aspiring female footballers were invited onto BBC Breakfast last week in the wake of England's victory in the Women's European Championship.

As part of a drive to promote the women's game and discuss the positive changes moving forward, a handful of players from Ashton Pumas Football Club took part in a question and answer session with host and presenter, Naga Munchetty.

Taking place on a five-a-side pitch at Salford Quays, the segment was based on the potential for real, meaningful change and the role models created during the tournament.

A handful of Ashton's players - which included Molly Anastasiou, the match ball deliver for the opening game between England and Austria - were questioned on a variety of topics surrounding the Euros, while secretary and coach Laura Day provided her own thoughts on the subject.

The girls were also lucky enough to meet the Lionesses' Alex Greenwood and Kiera Walsh, while a handful of the players from the younger age groups got to interview them on the show and BBC Radio 1.

As Reporter Sport featured earlier this month, England's success has already had a positive impact on the women's game at grassroots level, with participation rates on a steady rise across the entire age spectrum.
