Aldwinians' player appeal

Aldwinians Rugby Club have returned to action and are looking to welcome new players down to the club to get involved.

In line with the government’s roadmap to ease lockdown restrictions, outdoor sporting venues have been allowed to reopen from the 29th March and clubs are delighted to see the return of their beloved sports.

Founded in September 1936, Aldwinians Rugby Club have sported some noticeable players and continue to impress at a high standard. Eric Evans, MBE who was captain of the England rugby union team from 1956 to 1958 began his sporting career at the Audenshaw based ground.

Dean Schofield who went on to play for London Welsh is also a product of Aldwinians RUFC and first came to prominence when scoring twice as Aldwinians beat Dudley Kingswinsford in the NPI Cup Final at Twickenham.

Boasting four senior teams, 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams and ladies’ teams as well as a mixed ability group and a walking rugby team, Aldwinians have space for anyone who would like to get involved and are very keen to inspire new players into the sport.

With junior sections available starting from two years all the way to Under 18’s, children are more than welcome to come along and play, maybe even finding a real talent and passion for rugby.

Aldwinians say they are looking to ‘give back to the community’ by offering a safe space to socialise as well as helping to develop skills in a new sport.

The club are available to contact via 0161 301 1001 or through their various social pages.
