Aces Stun League Leaders

Belle Vue notched another impressive Premiership win at the National Speedway Stadium after taking down league leaders Ipswich 60-30 in Manchester.

The match had all the makings of a potential grand final as the current top two went head-to-head in their battle for points, as the Play Offs continue to loom closer.

The ATPI Aces’ victory puts them to within two points of the TruMix Witches in top spot, with one meeting in hand and only six more opportunities in total to further add to their tally.

The night started at close quarters with the visitors keeping the Mancunians honest, but a sensational ride from Norick Blodorn to earn a 5-1 with Jye Etheridge in Heat 2 really set things in motion.

Even having strengthened their side with former Belle Vue rider Rohan Tungate, there was little that Ipswich could do to respond to yet another powerful Belle Vue performance.

Skipper Brady Kurtz, along with newly-crowned Speedway Of Nations champion Max Fricke rounded off the win with a massive 5-1 in Heat 15 to take the final scores to the sixty-point mark once again.

Fricke, who is due to star in the British GP in Cardiff this weekend, said: “It’s great to see all the boys riding really well at home and tonight was a significant result for us.

“I think, in some respects, our strength at home has surprised even us just recently, and to score so massively against such a strong team as Ipswich sends out a big statement.

“The last time they came here, we beat them even though we were slightly under strength but this time around they had strengthened up so we knew we’d have our work cut out.

“But things just seemed to come together for us. Everyone is hitting brilliant form and we’ve got to keep this up now that the Play Offs are only a few weeks away.”

The Cool Running Colts round off their campaign at home on Friday, August 19 against the Leicester Lion Cubs as they bid to keep their NDL title hopes alive.

Meeting tickets, race day programmes and stadium parking are now available to reserve online at bellevue-speedway.com.
