Ace time at tennis club

Glossop Tennis Club held a family fun day with two tournaments for their younger and junior members.

The five to 11-year-olds started the day by playing in a competitive tournament with a festive twist, watched on by their parents.

Next up was the 12 and older doubles competition.

Chairman Marcus Gill ditched his usual doubles partner to pair up with his son Evan.

Marcus said: “This was a really great day for everyone who took part and it was nice to see other parent and child doubles partnerships which made the event a bit special and very very funny.

“To top it off there was mulled wine to keep us warm in between the games.”

The events were organised by the club’s new coach Dean Hamilton who has only been at the club a few weeks.

Dean said: “I am so happy to be a part of Glossop Tennis Club and really pleased that this event went well despite the cold weather.

“The feedback I have had has been really positive and supportive and it was great to see the smiles on everyone’s faces as they played tennis to music.”

Dean added: “I am hoping to expand on the lessons recently provided and grow our numbers in 2020 by introducing more days and time slots for all ages and abilities.”
