Saddleworth youngsters hold cake sales to support Ukraine appeal

Three young Saddleworth youngsters have been praised for their heartwarming fundraising over the weekend for the people of Ukraine.

Phoebe Glennie (7), Olivia Thornley (8) and Chloe Bardsley (8), who are all pupils at Holy Trinity CE Primary School in Dobcross, teamed up to organise cake sales setting up stalls to sell their homemade bakes - cupcakes, brownies, cakes, flapjacks and biscuits.

Initially, the girls set themselves a target of raising £50 but thanks to generous donations of local residents, friends and family, they raised almost £700 between them at stalls.

The money has been donated to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and the British Red Cross to help provide food, first aid, clean water, shelter support, warm clothing, hygiene parcels and medicines, whilst also supporting hospitals and healthcare facilities.

Proud mother Amanda Bardsley said: “There was a remarkable response to the initiative from villagers - we can’t thank them enough.

“The girls baked the cakes and biscuits themselves under parent supervision. They had stalls on Church Road Friezland and outside Holy Trinity Church Dobcross on Saturday and then on Sunday their stalls were outside our house near The Square on Woods Lane Dobcross and again outside church.”
