Oldham youth group mark Eid by helping the vulnerable

A Muslim youth group in Oldham sacrificed the time they would have spent celebrating Eid al-Fitr to help deliver food parcels to vulnerable people in the community.

Eid, the breaking of the fast after Ramadan, was held last weekend (23-24 May) and is one of the largest days of celebration in the Muslim calendar.

But instead of holding restricted celebrations in lockdown, members from the Oldham branch of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community assisted with the relief efforts of Manchester City Council.

They helped to deliver emergency food parcels from New Smithfield Market in Openshaw to members of the community who need them most.

The youth group said members felt "urged to help those in difficult times so everyone in the community can stay safe and well".

They added: "As Ahmadi Muslims, we passionately feel about well being of our communities. Our desire and faith is to serve fellow human beings.

"Eid is the best time to share happiness and peace. Islam teaches us to perform good deeds to fellow human beings specially in festive times so everyone in community feel peace and happiness. We Ahmadi Muslims will keep our efforts on going to the best of our abilities to serve humanity."
