Oldham school's generous way to support Children In Need this year

This year's annual celebration for Children in Need looked very different at Alexandra Park Junior School in Oldham.

While the children did don their PJs for the third annual Children in Need pyjama party, they didn't bring a financial donation to school - instead they were asked to donate to the local foodbank.

Samantha Nicholson-Hickling, PSHE leader, said: "This year we are really focusing on supporting local charities. Our community has been hit hard by Covid-19 and many families will need help to get through these difficult winter months.

"We traditionally do donate the proceeds to the Children In Need charity but this year with the focus being on our community we asked for food donations. That means we can help Children In Need closer to home. Today's donations have almost overwhelmed me."

She added: "Our families have been amazingly generous. Last time we donated to the food bank there were 150 donations. This time I think theres double that. Our school community once again prove how much they get behind charity and show what they can do. Things like this make me so proud to work at our school."

The children enjoyed a fun day with Pudsey related activities and learnt how good giving can make you feel at the same time.
