Newly launched pop-up store, Oldham Made, is celebrating World Book Day on Thursday (3 March) with local author and illustrator, J C Perry.
J C Perry is one of the 16 Oldham Makers selling their products in the converted Spindles store, as part of Oldham Council’s initiative to bring together some of the borough’s best creators, innovators and entrepreneurs in one independent shop.
Jo, from Delph, currently works from her home office writing and illustrating children’s books. Her hard work paid off recently as she won a silver medal in the 2020 Wishing Shelf Book Awards for her book "Tom’s Zombie Fright."
As local children dress up as their favourite book character for World Book Day, Oldham Made, together with Jo, will be offering to accept children’s book tokens against the cost of her books.
Jo said: "I am so thankful to have such a wonderful platform here at Oldham Made to promote my stories.
"Writing doesn’t feel like work to me, it’s a real passion and I hope many youngsters in Oldham will find joy in my pages and perhaps be encouraged to pick up a pen themselves."
There are currently three of Jo's titles on offer at Oldham Made - "Ready Steady SAIL!", "The Best Nest: A Tale of Roosting Rivalry" and "Tom’s Zombie Fright."
Oldham Made provides a platform for local talented artists, at-home businesses and innovative independent start-ups, encouraging local residents to shop small, shop local, shop Oldham Made.
The pop-up shop is open through March, Monday to Saturday from 9am until 5pm and is funded by The Welcome Back Fund, set up by the European Regional Development Fund and Her Majesty’s Government.
