Oldham Lose 3-0 At Bradford City

It was a miserable weekend for Oldham Athletic as the club lost their third straight league game to leave them rock bottom of the table. Oldham conceded three sloppy goals and it arguably could’ve been worse for Laurent Banide’s side but Bradford wasted many opportunities. The Latics faithful came in numbers to Valley Parade as just over one thousand of them made the journey, which would’ve been the only positive note for the club.

Oldham seemed buoyed by their positive display against Blackburn in the Carabao Cup as they named an unchanged line-up. Both sides went into the game without a league win so far but Bradford started the better of the two sides with the Bantams opening the scoring after just four minutes. Connor Wood did well from the left and whipped in a delightful ball, which found its way to James Vaughan on the back post who simply couldn’t miss.

Oldham had their best spell of the game after going behind and on the 21st minute, they had their best chance of the game. Oldham captain Mohamed Maouche was unlucky to see his shot from the edge of penalty area rebound off a post in the 21st minute.

Oldham were then made to pay for their wasted spell of possession as the clinical Bantams went 2-0 up on the 32nd minute. Kevin Mellor’s cross from the right-hand side found an unmarked Clayton Donaldson as he delicately headed over the advancing Gary Woods.

Bradford should’ve had a third just three minutes later as first goal scorer Vaughan managed to rise ahead of Zak Mills to send a header crashing off the bar. To say Bradford hadn’t won at home since March they went in at the break looking to have already broken that trend.

Bradford started the second half in the same manner as well. Vaughan, who could’ve had a hat trick, just couldn’t get on the end of a delightful cross from the left by Palmer.

And Bradford did wrap up the three points on the 71st minute as Donaldson held the ball up on the right before laying it into the path of the onrushing Scannell to score with a superb shot into the far corner.

It was a result that compiled the misery on the Oldham faithful as they find themselves rock bottom of League Two. The fans vented their frustrations on social media as many directed their anger towards the ownership of the club.

Next up for Oldham is Exeter at home on Tuesday 20th August.
