Oldham charity's Three Peaks of Saddleworth walk to return this year

Mahdlo Youth Zone has announced that the much-loved Three Peaks of Saddleworth walk will be returning on Saturday 3 July.

The event, which has been running since 2016, has taken a firm spot as one of the charity’s largest annual fundraising events, growing in popularity year on year with record numbers putting their best foot forward in 2019 to raise an incredible £13,000.

Sadly, due to the pandemic, it had to be cancelled last year and this year Mahdlo are appealing for local people and companies to get involved and join them for the walk around the beautiful Saddleworth countryside.

The walk, which is around 15 miles, will take on local landmarks Indian’s Head, Pots and Pans and Wharmton Hill. The route is challenging, but achievable, and walkers are rewarded by some incredible views of Oldham and beyond.

Fundraising Manager Claire Crossfield said: "We are absolutely delighted that the Three Peaks will be returning this year. We had so many people asking us to put it on again, we’re hoping it will be bigger and better than ever before. It’s a great way to put your lockdown exercise into action and raise funds for Oldham’s young people.

"You can compete as part of a team, individually or even as a relay as a family, your four-legged friends are welcome too! It takes around 6 hours to complete and our team are on hand to make sure that everyone makes it to the finish line.”

CEO Lucy Lees added: "The pandemic hit our fundraising capabilities hard last year, but we’re bouncing back and putting some exciting plans into action. Young people need your support now more than ever. The funds raised from this event will be invested into Oldham’s young people giving them the best start in life. I really can’t wait to see people walking for Mahdlo and having a great day out.”

It’s just £20 to enter and Mahdlo are asking that participants commit to raising a minimum of £30.

In return for signing up, walkers will receive a commemorative t-shirt, medal, breakfast, picnic, refreshments along the route, and post-walk food at The Royal George.

Participants will also receive support for their fundraising efforts, including help with setting up a fundraising page, social media banners and sponsorship forms etc.

Anyone who is up for the challenge and would like to register for the event, or has any questions, should contact Claire by emailing events@mahdloyz.org or calling 07894 243125.
