Man arrested after hit and run leaves woman fighting for her life

A man has been arrested in connection with a hit and run in Oldham which left a woman fighting for her life in hospital.

The woman, who is in her 30s, is still in hospital with life-threatening injuries after the incident which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning (20 September).

Police were called to Lees Road at around 2.40am, after receiving reports that there was a person lying in the road. They discovered the woman and she was taken to hospital.

Amid ongoing enquiries, police say they have established the woman was involved in a collision with a white Vauxhall Corsa - the driver of which failed to stop at the scene. The car has since been recovered by officers in the Oldham area.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

But police say their investigation is still open and they want to speak to anyone who may have seen the Corsa or has any dashcam footage if they were in the area at the time.

Sergeant Darren Hancock, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the woman who is currently in a critical condition as result of this incident.

"Although we have arrested a man, our investigation is very much still ongoing and we would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and might have seen this white Vauxhall Corsa - which has very distinctive black wheels.

"If you witnessed this collision or have any dash cam footage of this car leading up to, during, or following this incident, please do not hesitate to get in touch with police as a matter of urgency."
