Four kittens tied up and dumped in plastic bag at side of road

The RSPCA say that four kittens were lucky to survive after being found tied up in a plastic bag.

The three black and white kittens and one tabby and white were bundled into a Bag for Life, tied up and thrown onto the side of the road in the Alt area of Oldham.

A member of the public found them on 19 October, took them home and contacted the RSPCA.

Inspector Catherine Byrnes went to collect the litter. She said: "A woman was passing when she spotted the carrier bag and noticed it moving. She went to investigate, tore the bag open and found the kittens inside.

"She took the kittens home and called us for help. Thankfully, the kittens were fine but the outcome could have been far, far worse.

"Tied up inside this plastic bag, piled on top of each other they could have easily suffocated or could have been hit by a car."

The kittens, believed to be around nine or 10 weeks old, are now being cared for by the RSPCA's Manchester and Salford branch.

Manager Susie Hughes (pictured below with the kittens) said: "They’re a little underweight but, given the circumstances, they’re doing really well. When they arrived they were absolutely terrified; they were trembling.

"Some of our volunteers sat with them for hours slowly building up their confidence and now they are lovely, happy little kittens. Thankfully - and luckily - it appears they’ve been left unscathed by their experiences."

The kittens - now named Blue, Bumble, Cricket and Ladybug - will soon be available for rehoming and staff would like them to go off to their new lives in pairs.

Anyone who is interested in offering these kittens a new home should contact the branch by emailing adoptions@rspca-manchesterandsalford.org.uk
